Cover Work
In the DfES Learning Platforms booklet for Secondary Schools, the use of the learning platform to deliver 'cover' work is highlighted as one of the benefits of the technology.
From September 2008 we have been piloting the use of a cover area on our platform.
Some of the issues we have had to deal with include:
- finding a common format for teachers to plan learning platform lessons.
- devising a system for uploading cover work as teachers supply it.
- enabling access to specific areas for cover classes.
- putting in place a simple system (who does what, when and how).
Online lessons follow a standard format - lesson objectives are explained (sometimes in video format) - followed by a main Activity area - Help Files - Extension Work - and a Forum where students can post questions - the lesson plan is available to cover supervisors as a separate download.
