eModerator Project
In 2005 Tideway School recruited a small team of part-time voluntary eModerators who were ex-students of the school.
The aim behind the eModerator Project was to develop small scale research projects that would inform school policy and practice in the use of a Learning Platform.
The ex-students underwent a 5 week training programme and they are supervised by the assistant headteacher responsible for the project.
All of the group have had CRB checks (a lengthy 3 to 4 month process) and have access to school email for individual work with current students.
Research reports they have completed include:
- using the Learning Platform to deliver out-of-school hours support.
- pastoral support using the message forum tool.
- using conference/chat to enhance understanding.
All of their reports are available on the Download area.
Early in 2006 Hannah toured Australia for 2 months and a small group of students tracked her movements and communicted with her on the Learning Platform as she travelled.
The group were involved in a major Holocaust Project using the Learning Platform and began to train Year 10 students in the role of eModerator.
As Learning Platforms develop in schools a range of support posts may have to be created to ensure their effectiveness.
At the start of this project all of the Tideway eModerators had previous experience of using a VLE in a work or study environment.
