“It really is all about control, isn’t it.
Schools will probably end up using their learning platforms and VLEs to simply check on the work that pupils are doing. And the technology is good at that – helping teachers to track and monitor who is online, who has downloaded lesson files, who has completed work and uploaded it. School can even use the technology to make sure that parents police pupil work as well.
They are forgetting about forums however.
Forums can give pupils a voice and make schools more democratic places.
Unlike face to face discussions and meetings that can soon be forgotten, what goes on a forum stays on a forum. If a pupil has raised an issue and other pupils have contributed to a discussion and supported it, school needs to sit up, pay attention and take action.
Forum discussions are not so easily swept under the carpet.”
