If teachers do not understand how students access information on a web page then they are at a disadvantage when it comes to designing learning opportunities on their school platform.

This is a screenshot from the 'starter' of an online lesson designed to introduce students to the school learning platform.

The designer has simply approached it in the way that a face-to-face lesson might be constructed: it's a 3 part lesson (starter, main task, plenary), with classroom based resources uploaded to the lesson.

Jakob Nielson has carried out a great deal of research into the ways in which young people read web pages and access the information on them. His work his highly relevant to any teacher designing content for the their learning platform.
