The Learning Platform outputs results in graph form.

You can also export data to an Excel spreadsheet for further interpretation and interrogation.

A similar survey next year will let us assess the impact that anti-bullying policies have had.

BACKGROUND

In 2006 Tideway School made a new assistant head teacher appointment with specific responsibility for delivering the Every Child Matters agenda.Stay Safe/Enjoy and Achieve prompted a whole school survey into student attitudes and experience of bullying.

Previous school research into this had involved using behaviour log data on SIMS to assess the extent of bullying; there were some limited paper based tutor group surveys; and also a selection of face to face student interviews conducted by senior teachers. Whole school surveys were too consuming of resources. It's difficult collecting and interpreting data from over 600 young people.

Using the assessment tool on the school Learning Platform an online questionnaire was designed. The questionnaire was mainly a multiple choice affair, with tick boxes, where students could select a statement that most approached their experience and understanding.

There were also a small number of questions that required text input.

Student anonymity was guaranteed. It was not a compulsory survey. It could be done at the start of lesson time wherever students had access to a PC – or tutor time, lunch and after school access in clubs and from home.

The questionnaire was visible to students for two weeks.

200 students completed the survey.
