Reading 4

A Model for Blended e-Learning.

Step 1

Assessment

One of the easiest places to start is to move a test or assessment online. Keep your traditional teacher-led lessons and put your end of lesson / course assessment on the learning platform. This makes it easier to automate scoring and track and report.

Step 2

Create an Online Community

Create a threaded discussion on your learning platform forum for learners to access after lessons. This threaded discussion allows learners to stay in touch with classmates and to ask questions, share insights, and post resources.

Step 3

Make reference material available

Provides links to reference materials for learners to use after lessons. The links enable learners to explore topics in greater depth and reduce their reliance on the teacher and their classroom notes.

This 'model' is based on a paper by Margaret Driscol (link below).

I have found it useful in considering the ways in which a Learning Platform might be used in a 'blended' way in the classroom.
