Research Question: the main question

The main question in this thesis is:

Does the use of a learning platform in the secondary school classroom support approaches to personalised teaching and learning? The focus is on the practice of individual teachers and the use of a platform in a blended way in a face to face setting.

Based on my previous work with learning platforms and observations of the ways in which teachers from across the secondary curriculum have used them, my research is informed by the following hypotheses:

1) When a learning platform is introduced to the face-to-face classroom there is a shift from a behaviourist to a collaborative/constructivist model of pedagogy;

2) The role of the teacher changes from director to facilitator of learning;

3) Formative rather than summative assessment becomes dominant.
