Terry Anderson

Personal Learning Spaces

Terry Anderson describes 'personal learning spaces' as a combination of VLE/Learning Platforms and other technologies that enhance collaboration and networking amongst learners.

The VLE/Learning Platform is not at the heart of learning, it is just another technology.

Brighton University

19th April 2007

Terry Anderson is a professor at Athabasca University in Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the Open University.

He is a researcher in Distance Learning and recently made a presentation at Brighton University where he talked about 'personal learning spaces'; learner use of social networking applications and their resistance to the formal technologies that institutions use.

He puts forward a view that learners will use a combination of technologies in the classroom and (especially younger learners) resist those that 'we' would prefer them to use.
