Although Learning Platforms/VLEs are in common use in further and higher education, they are a new technology as far as most junior and secondary schools are concerned. As a result in many LEAs staff INSET is in its infancy.
At Tideway School we have held one full day INSET session based on using Learning Platforms to deliver personalised learning. A range of Learning Sets also meet twice a term, after school. Staff opt into a set of their choice. A Learning Platform 'learning set' is always on offer and this term it is being organised by our Head of English.
In 2005/06 training in school was based on Gilly Salmon's books, eModerating and eTivities.
In 2007 staff will undertake advanced eModerator training with 'All things in moderation'. The course takes place online and can be flexibly accessed around staff work commitments.
