VLE to PLE
When Tideway School first started using it's learning platform the aim was to centralise access to school information and digital resources through the platform and its various applications.
e.g. the school website was replaced by the platform homepage; school surveys were organised through the survey tool within the platform.
One year on and the platform has not proved to be as sophisticated - in some respects - as the external Internet based solutions that we were using.
We are now beginning to develop a more 'blended' use of the platform - it is still being used to access collaborative learning opportunities, but we have separated the main school website from the platform and are beginning to use an external service for our surveys.
This is a logical progression from Virtual Learning Environment to Personalised Learning Environment.
We would expect pupils and staff to choose which application or service best meets their needs in terms of learning, rather than 'straight-jacket' them into learning platform use.
