Workforce Reform
NEW APPOINTMENTS
In the academic year 2005-06 Tideway School piloted a number of part-time staff appointments relating directly to its Learning Platform.
DESIGN ASSISTANT
The post holder was responsible for working with Heads of Subject to design online content and assessment opportunities.
COMMUNITY eLEARNING COORDINATOR
The Cooordinator was responsible for developing links with our partner junior schools. One important area of work was the delivery of KS2 Saturday morning ICT classes, during which junior school pupils were trained in the use of the Learning Platform.
COMMUNITY eLEARNING TECHNICIAN
This full-time post was made in connection with the school Technology Development Plan 2002. It was recognised in that plan that the development of a Learning Platform would require a specialist technician to administer the online environment.
This post holder is specifically responsible for enrolling staff and students online; granting access rights; designing online classroom templates; as well as maintaining contacts with our partner junior schools and other organisations interested in the technology.
If you have any questions about the administration of a Learning Platform in school please contact our technician on tideway@tidewayschool.org
The successful use of a Learning Platform may require a change in working practices and the development of new staff positions.
Community eLearning Technician
Congratulations to Jon who has now secured employment with Fronter.
It is worth noting that these were all temporary posts and that at the time of writing, due to budget constraints, it has not been possible to create a permanent post relating to the Learning Platform.
I would suggest that for a Learning Platform to be effectively embedded across the school and its community this requires a specific staff (and not necessarily a teacher) appointment - it's not a simple technology and the stability of its long term management is critical.
